About Lisa
Lisa Schrempp began studying yoga in 1985 with David Life and Sharon Gannon of Jivamukti Yoga and has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga since 1992.
She made her first trip to Mysore, India, in 1993 to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois. After several trips to Mysore, Lisa received authorization to teach from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 1997. In 1998, Lisa moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to study Ayurveda with Dr. Vasant Lad and launched an Ashtanga school, where she taught daily until relocating to Tucson, Arizona, in 2002. There, she began her official Ayurveda practice and taught healing practices derived from both yoga and Ayurveda.
In 2012, she founded Ashtanga Yoga Tucson.
While in Mysore, India, in 2009, Lisa had the chance to be with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois just days before he passed away. During this trip, she received authorization from R. Sharath Jois to teach the full intermediate series of Ashtanga. She continues to travel to India regularly to study. Lisa is the only Level 2 authorized teacher in Arizona by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
With over 18 years of experience in Ayurveda, Lisa is a seasoned practitioner who has extensively studied with Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Sunil Joshi, Dr. Anil Kumar, and Dr. Robert Svoboda. She also holds a Yoga Therapy Certificate from B.K.S. Iyengar, granted in 1996. Lisa is deeply grateful to her teachers and their teachers for passing on the knowledge of Yoga and Ayurveda to her.
” Don’t think that perfection an asana makes a good pratique. Don’t think like that. Many students say, oh today, I caught my ankles in backbending, today is my best practice. Don’t think like that. Getting up and being on your mat, and just doing what you can, that is sufficient and that is your best practice.” R.Sharath Jois
