Ashtanga Led primary series
What is Ashtanga Led primary series?
A led class is an essential complement to a regular Mysore practice. It reinforces the practice of vinyasa you learn in the Mysore class.
What is the Primary series?
The Ashtanga Primary Series, developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, is a foundational sequence of asanas (postures) in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This practice consists of a specific order of postures linked together through vinyasas (movement-breath coordination). Known as Yoga Chikitsa, meaning “yoga therapy,” the primary series aims to strengthen and soften the body and mind.
Vigorous class
The primary series is a challenging and dynamic practice that focuses on building strength, flexibility, and stamina. It begins with sun salutations (Surya Namaskara A and B) to warm up the body and establish a steady breath. Following the sun salutations, there is a progression of standing, seated, and finishing postures. Each posture prepares the body for the next, creating a flowing and continuous practice.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
The Primary Serie strives to:
Align the Body: The sequence corrects structural imbalances and improves posture.
Build Strength and Flexibility: The progressive nature of the postures develops physical strength and flexibility over time.
Enhance Mental Focus: The repetitive and meditative aspects of the sequence cultivate concentration and mental clarity.
Promote Overall Well-being: By addressing both physical and mental aspects, the Primary Series fosters holistic health and well-being.

What is the purpose of the Ashtanga Led Primary Series?

Why do we practice a counted Led Primary class? What are the intentions behind this format?
A traditional counted Led Primary class has several key intentions. One major goal is to refine the steadiness of practice. By counting every inhale and exhale at a steady pace, the instructor provides a rhythm that ensures equal time for each breath. Challenging postures are counted at the same pace as more straightforward ones, allowing us to measure our steadiness against this ideal.
A Led class also helps us identify moments where our attention tends to wander. By becoming aware of these habits, we gain the opportunity to work on controlling them.
In the traditional counted Led Primary class, as taught in Mysore, India, you only practice the postures you have learned in Mysore class, along with the closing postures. A Led class is not a time to learn new postures.
